Lower School Choral Music

The lower school choral music program at Trinity Presbyterian School consists of classes for students in kindergarten through the fifth grade. Students attend class one day per week for thirty minutes

Music skills are taught in a sequential manner using a series of choral music textbooks designed especially for elementary students. These skills are not only sequential, but cumulative as well. Each year new musical concepts are added that build upon those taught in previous years. Some of the concepts covered include rhythm, melody, form, dynamics, tone color, and musical styles. Individual talent and ability are recognized as God-given gifts and students are encouraged to develop these wonderful gifts. In the classroom however, achievement is determined by enthusiastic participation within the group as they work together. Each grade level has a unique opportunity to participate in either a traditional choir, or a stage performance.

The first and sixth grade offerings include participation in a choir. The first grade choir is called, “Ahna’s Angels.” Our angel choir is seventy-five students traveling and performing both traditional children’s music and Christian praise music written specifically for young children’s choirs. They are a blessing wherever they go. The sixth grade choir is called, “The Kingdom Kids.” The focus for this choir is learning to use music to minister to others. They travel and sing for residents in retirement centers and nursing homes. They also take time before they leave, to meet the elderly residents, get acquainted, and spend a short amount of time praying for them. It is truly a tremendous blessing to see these fine Christian students putting their musical abilities and their faith to work. Trinity students in kindergarten, and grades two through five enjoy working together on stage performances for lower school chapels and assemblies.

At Trinity, we recognize that it is God’s desire that we teach our students to praise Him. Psalm 8:2: “From the lips of children and infants You have ordained praise.”
