Sixth Grade
Lower School Sixth Grade
Science
The sixth grade science program is a general study of all areas of science. It is important that students develop a sense of how all the different types of science work together in God’s great creation. Emphasis is placed on helping students see the relevance of the study of science to their own lives. From cells, plants, and animals to ecosystems, chemistry, and the forces of motion, students spend time discovering the wonders of scientific investigation. It is an exciting year of learning to understand basic scientific concepts. Our scientific study includes a three-day, two-night, environmental education trip to camp.
Social Studies
Students in the sixth grade continue their study of American history beginning with Reconstruction after the Civil War. The curriculum uses a multi-faceted approach to the study of each decade from 1865 on. These time periods are studied from the various perspectives of economic, geographic, cultural, and historical significance. Students learn to evaluate cause and effect relationships between various events. It is our desire to develop within our students a pride in their country and a sense of civic responsibility.
Bible
Bible study in the sixth grade is centered around the life of Jesus. We take an in-depth look a Jesus’ life and the miracles he performed as well as studying his teachings through the Sermon on the Mount and various parables. Students are challenged to apply these truths to their lives so that they may develop a more mature spiritual walk.
