Dance
The Trinity Dance Ensemble is the only full-time dance program offered at an independent school in Montgomery. The five-level dance program is ballet based with additional classes taught in modern, jazz, hip-hop and contemporary ballet. Students in the program have two performances during the school year. The first is a holiday performance entitled "Twas the Night," which is a collaboration between Trinity’s performing arts divisions during the Christmas season. The second performance is a "Spring Concert" during the Spring Week of Fine Arts. The Trinity Dance Ensemble is a college-preperatory program that allows dancers opportunities to delve into the profession of dance and what it has to offer.
Students in the dance program are offered opportunities to attend dance festivals in regional, state, and national organizations such as NDEO, National High School Dance Festival, Panoply Arts Festival. The students also have the opportunity to take trips to places like Los Angeles, New York City, and Miami, to explore different types of dance. This program allows students to develop their student choreography as well as work closely with one another and the program Director to gain invaluable experience of collaboration and training with other artists. This art form brings a discipline and a work ethic that strengthens them in their academics and encourages deep creative thinking.
The Trinity Dance Ensemble was recently selected to perform at Disneyland in Los Angeles, California over Valentines weekend in February 2016. The advanced students had the opportunity to study and take classes with a few schools—Millennium Dance Center and International Dance Academy—in Los Angeles, California. In 2015 the advanced students studied a week in New York City at Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway as they watched some of the most famous dancers in their environment. In 2014, they were selected to perform at the National High School Dance Festival in Miami. They also performed at the Panoply Arts Festival in Huntsville where they placed first in the ballet category for best choreography.
Whether dance is something that one just enjoys doing or is pursued as part of their career, these dancers are given the opportunity to see what that looks like in a nurturing environment.
